The station has undergone many changes since its inception as easy listening station CKWW-FM in 1967. In 1970, the station switched to progressive rock and became 'Ohm-FM' with the CJOM call letters. In 1985, CHUM Ltd. purchased the station and the format changed once again, this time to Top 40. In 1990, the station became CIMX and on May 13th, 1991 the Modern Rock format went full time starting with Jane Addiction's "Stop!"
